| Description | Our Client Hospital Trust is the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK and among the largest in Europe. The hospital is a partnership of two specialist hospitals in London which are known throughout the world for their expertise. Each year between 500 and 600 papers by researchers associated with the Trust are published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, such as The Lancet and New England Journal of Medicine.
The Hospital serves more than 90,000 outpatients and 26,000 inpatients each year. On an annual basis staff perform over: 3,000 angiograms; 1,800 thoracic surgery operations; 2,400 coronary angioplasties; 2,000 treatments for respiratory failure; and 1,200 heart bypass operations. Services for children were given the highest possible 'excellent' rating in the most recent Healthcare Commission survey.. The Trust is Europe's top-ranked respiratory research centre and the cardiac, cardiovascular and critical care teams are rated in the top three most highly cited health research teams in Europe. The Heart Attack Centre has pioneered the use of primary angioplasty for the treatment of heart attacks. The on-site foetal cardiology service enables clinicians to begin caring for babies while still in the womb; many are scanned at just 12 weeks, when the heart measures just over a millimetre. Europe's largest unit for the treatment of cystic fibrosis is based at the Hospital: The hospital is the country's largest centre for the treatment of adult congenital heart disease Vacancies exist within the cardiothoracic surgical unit The unit consists of 3 wards, all having an integral High Dependency Unit, which ensures that you are able to care for patients both during their acute post-surgery phase and during their rehabilitation phase prior to discharge. Each ward provides you with an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical and managerial skills, depending on experience, in a centre renowned for excellence and high standards, where the majority of nursing staff are permanent, experienced members of the team. Essential - some prior High Dependency Care Experience - being in charge of a clinical area - prior cardio-thoracic experience, but those with related experience - it should be relevant surgical experience, i.e. vascular or renal surgery will be considered - the ability to learn and gain knowledge in a new speciality may be considered |
