TitleLondon Nursing Job - Staff Nurse Renal Unit - Band 5
DescriptionOur Client Hospital is a 900 bedded tertiary referral hospital. The services include a major accident and emergency service, all branches of surgery and medicine, a renal service serving the whole of north London, paediatrics, maternity services, care of elderly people, an adolescent psychiatric service and one of two high security infectious diseases units in the country.

They are renowned for their specialist services including liver, kidney and bone marrow transplantation, renal, AIDS/HIV, infectious diseases, plastic surgery, immunology, paediatric gastroenterology, ENT surgery and audiological medicine, amyloidosis and scleroderma. The Hospital is a leading cancer centre with a range of specialist diagnostic and treatment services in oncology and haematology and a major neuroscience base with a network extending throughout north London and into the Home Counties. There are associated internationally recognised research and training programmes.

The nephrology department serves the North-Central London sector. The department has:
. a national reputation in the management for renal tubular disorders, renal bone disease, nephro-urology and renal transplantation.
. specialist clinical interests including dialysis, diabetic nephropathy and HIV associated renal disease.
. close links with other tertiary referral services within the trust
. expertise in the management of renal amyloidosis, scleroderma, lupus nephritis, . epatorenal syndrome and Fabry disease.
. excellent support services. Dietitians provide dietary education to low clearance and
. dialysis patients. Further support is provided by renal social workers and clinical psychologists.

Inpatient wards include
A Acute transplantation, acute renal failure, acute dialysis, high dependency medical care, plasma exchange.
B Low dependency care, general acute nephrology, renal access surgery.

Renal 5-day ward
Day case surgery, day case renal biopsy, day case line insertion
Day case investigation (tubular function testing etc)

Renal dialysis unit
The unit consists of 21 stations. In some cases, plasmapheresis/dialysis is carried out in outlying wards and ITU.

Peritoneal dialysis unit
Renal transplantation

Essential - some post registration experience in an acute setting, preferably in Renal medicine.
