DescriptionOur Client Hospital Trust is the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK and among the largest in Europe. The hospital is a partnership of two specialist hospitals in London which are known throughout the world for their expertise. Each year between 500 and 600 papers by researchers associated with the Trust are published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, such as The Lancet and New England Journal of Medicine.

The Hospital serves more than 90,000 outpatients and 26,000 inpatients each year. On an annual basis staff perform over: 3,000 angiograms; 1,800 thoracic surgery operations; 2,400 coronary angioplasties; 2,000 treatments for respiratory failure; and 1,200 heart bypass operations. 10 bedded Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) (4 bed bays and 4 single cubicles) where beds are used flexibly to accommodate PICU and PHDU patients so the numbers of patients vary.
paediatric ward - a 24 bed ward area (six bed bays and single cubicles), 4 bed Paediatric High Dependency (PHDU) area, 5 bed day care unit.
A dedicated paediatric out patient department.

As a band 7 Paediatric Intensive Care Nurse you will participate in providing clinical care for critically ill children, both ‘hands on’, and by managing the service on a daily basis ensuring efficient and effective use of nursing resources, and supporting nurses at the bedside to provide the best possible care to our patients and their families.

You will also be expected to participate in staff training.
You will be encouraged to pursue your own career development and lead on your specialist subjects within the ICU specialities, developing the service for the future. Participation in the development of Integrated Care Pathways, and, with the senior nursing team, the development and expansion of the future nursing service in paediatrics, will also provide the motivated candidate with many opportunities to excel.

Essential

NMC Registered Paediatric Nurse (sub-part 1 child)
Post registration course in paediatric intensive care
Post graduate/registration course/qualification relevant to cardiac and/or respiratory nursing
SLICE or equivalent teaching and mentoring experience.
Paediatric Advanced Resuscitation Course

Recognised competency and management of people at senior band 6 level within a paediatric critical care environment.
Experience in change management
In-depth knowledge of paediatric cardio-respiratory nursing
