JOB TITLE: Head Nurse

RESPONSIBLE TO: Assistant Chief of Nursing Affairs/Program Director

BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for 24-hour management of assigned nursing unit. Assesses, plans, directs, implements and evaluates patient care to comply with established standards of nursing practice and performance and JCIA. Communicates effectively both inter and intradepartmentally. Strives for excellence on unit and establishes a cohesive team approach to the delivery of patient care. Responsible for human resource function at unit level.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Collaborates with medical staff and attends unit rounds.
- Serves as leadership model for staff.
- Develops evidence based nursing practice in collaboration with Charge Nurse and Clinical Instructors.
- Assumes responsibility for managing and monitoring of resource utilization.
- Plans and ensures implementation of patient education programs.
- Creates an environment that encourages staff to contribute to the improvement of quality patient care in a transcultural environment.
- Evaluates patient acuity and develops criteria for work assignment.
- Determines staffing plans and develops scheduling system for unit.
- Coordinates administratively with other departments and disciplines.
- Conducts performance appraisals.
- Applies problem-solving techniques to unit related issues.
- Counsels and/or disciplines staff when appropriate.
- Participates on nursing and/ or interdisciplinary committees and task forces.
- Contributes to the development of Hospital wide policies and procedures.
- Participates in Hospital wide Performance Improvement activities and develops unit Performance Plan.
- Prepares reports and maintains records.
- Conducts unit meetings and maintains minutes.
- Assists with organizational projects as requested.
- Prepares annual budget and provides variance reports as required.
- Forecasts requirements for personnel, supplies and equipment.
- Assists and supports the staff in the identification, development, and implementation of their role according to his/her career development plan.
- Coordinates the orientation for new employees with unit preceptors.
- Plans for the training and development of Saudi nursing students and graduates.
- Establishes and achieves targets for Saudization and nationality mix in areas of responsibility, consistent with strategic plan of
- Nursing and Medical and Clinical Operations.
- Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Registered Nurse with country specific post registration program. Current Registered Nurse licensure from country of origin required.

EXPERIENCE a OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Six (6) years hospital experience as a registered nurse.
