Twenty (20) bed ward, which provides acute care to pediatric hematology and oncology patients from birth to 14 years of age.

Nurse Patient Ratio: 1:3 – 4 (days) 1:4 – 5 (nights)

The unit consists of four (4) negative air pressure rooms for isolation and sixteen (16) positive air pressure rooms. The most commonly treated oncology disorders include:

• Osteosarcomas
• Ewing’s Sarcoma/PNET
• Neuroblastoma/CNS tumors
• Germ Cell Tumor
• Wilm’s Tumor
• Rhabdomyosarcoma
• Retinoblastoma

Due to the predominance of pediatric hematology patients CWB also provides acute care to this patient population. The most commonly treated hematology disorders include:

• Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
• Acute Myelogenous Leukemia
• Aplastic Anemia
• Sickle Cell Anemia
• Langerhan’s Cell Histiocytosis
• Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
• Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
• Burkitt’s Lymphoma

JOB TITLE: Head Nurse

RESPONSIBLE TO: Assistant Chief of Nursing Affairs/Program Director

BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for 24-hour management of assigned nursing unit. Assesses, plans, directs, implements and evaluates patient care to comply with established standards of nursing practice and performance and JCIA. Communicates effectively both inter and intradepartmentally. Strives for excellence on unit and establishes a cohesive team approach to the delivery of patient care. Responsible for human resource function at unit level.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Registered Nurse with country specific post registration program. Current Registered Nurse licensure from country of origin required.

EXPERIENCE a OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Six (6) years hospital experience as a registered nurse.
