| Description | Our Client Hospital Trust is the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK and among the largest in Europe. The hospital is a partnership of two specialist hospitals in London which are known throughout the world for their expertise. Each year between 500 and 600 papers by researchers associated with the Trust are published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, such as The Lancet and New England Journal of Medicine.
The Hospital serves more than 90,000 outpatients and 26,000 inpatients each year. On an annual basis staff perform over: 3,000 angiograms; 1,800 thoracic surgery operations; 2,400 coronary angioplasties; 2,000 treatments for respiratory failure; and 1,200 heart bypass operations. Services for children were given the highest possible 'excellent' rating in the most recent Healthcare Commission survey.. The Trust is Europe's top-ranked respiratory research centre and the cardiac, cardiovascular and critical care teams are rated in the top three most highly cited health research teams in Europe. The Heart Attack Centre has pioneered the use of primary angioplasty for the treatment of heart attacks. The on-site foetal cardiology service enables clinicians to begin caring for babies while still in the womb; many are scanned at just 12 weeks, when the heart measures just over a millimetre. Europe's largest unit for the treatment of cystic fibrosis is based at the Hospital: The hospital is the country's largest centre for the treatment of adult congenital heart disease The 23 bedded ITU cares for patients following a variety of cardiothoracic procedures including heart and lung transplantation and insertion of Ventricular Assist Devices. Nurses on the Unit acquire specialist critical care skills in the care and management of patients who may also require advanced modes of ventilation, IABP, CVVHDF, nitric oxide and cardiac pacing. Our mentorship programme, supported by our Practice Education Team, aims to provide all new staff with the essential knowledge and skills required to settle into this busy, friendly unit. Due to the expansion of the critical care capacity, they now have an exciting opportunity for Band 6 Senior Staff Nurses. As a highly motivated Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse you will have an excellent opportunity to develop yourself further in mentoring/supporting colleagues, co-ordinating shift management and performing staff appraisals. With evidence of advanced critical care skill development you will have successfully completed a relevant post basic course (e.g. ITU Course) as well as a recognized teaching and assessment course. You will have experience in mentoring/assessing nursing colleagues. |
